Prof Andrea Varro MD, PhD

I graduated from the Szent-Gyorgyi Albert University, Medical School (SZOTE), Szeged, Hungary. I started my work at the Semmelweis University Medical School (SOTE), Budapest where I obtained my PhD funded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). In 1984 I moved to the University of Liverpool, Liverpool, UK where I was appointed as a lecturer. In 2001 I was appointed to a professorship (personal chair). My research areas were in preneoplastic conditions in the stomach and later the tumour microenvironment. I received several honours including the Hetenyi Geza medal for contribution to gastroenterology. In 2021 I was elected Honorary Doctorate in the University of Szeged. I was elected President of the British-Hungarian Medical Association (HMA-UK) in 2021.
